Spiritual Approach: Letting go of the Old SELF

Feeling trapped by old patterns and behaviors can be disheartening. You might have recently made significant wins in your healing journey, only to find yourself reverting to familiar, less confident ways in certain situations. Take, for instance, my recent doctorate graduation, where I unexpectedly slipped back into my shy, insecure self.

Despite working diligently for this achievement, I struggled to confidently put on my graduation hat on stage, met with a ripple of laughter from the audience of over 300 people. It felt embarrassing and dishonoring—a deep reminder of past insecurities.

However, challenges like these are also valuable learning experiences. They prompt us to delve deeper into ourselves and uncover underlying beliefs that may be holding us back. For me, it raises questions about why such incidents seem to recur—is there a deep-seated belief attracting them?

One possible belief is that clumsiness defines me, a notion reinforced by past experiences and even pointed out by my parents. But identifying these beliefs is only the first step. I must recognize that they are not inherent to who I truly am or what God intended for me.

By releasing these limiting beliefs, we free ourselves from their influence. Our beliefs, after all, shape our reality and attract corresponding situations. This applies not just to clumsiness, but to any belief that undermines our worthiness and potential.

To facilitate this release, I invoke the divine presence, asking for help in shedding these old beliefs. I visualize myself acting confidently and appropriately, free from the weight of clumsiness. This practice, coupled with reflection and prayer, can gradually transform our thoughts and behaviors.

Change is possible when we consciously choose to let go of what no longer serves us. We are not defined by our past or our limitations; we are eternal souls capable of growth and renewal.
